Home Page and Introduction

Young Liberian girl
Welcome to the adventure of short-term medical missions! You are about to embark upon a great Kingdom adventure that will stretch you in ways that you might not have dreamed possible. But you can expect that the mission will also be a source of deep satisfaction and growth as you learn more about yourself, our Lord, and His ways with His people. Thank you for taking this grand step of faith in leading a medical team!

This guide intends to share insights gained through the experience of many people and many trips taken over the course of more than a decade of medical missions at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. It presents "a way" that has led to great success but recognizes that other "ways" have equal validity and merit. The reader should take the points that seem especially helpful or pertinent to their own trip, and perhaps tuck away the others for another time.

As these are received, we will endeavor to include as many as possible and this Guide will be updated. Email suggestions, other input, or questions to the authors at info at stmleadersguide dot org.

This Guide is "Open Source"
We also want this Guide to be an "Open Source" Guide and we do hereby make it and its contents freely available to anyone who finds it useful. Feel free to point people to the url and to use individual pages or forms in print or electronic format in whatever manner is helpful to you or your group.

Organization of this Guide
This document is organized in such a way as to assist a Team Leader in anticipating and thinking through various aspects of the trip being planned. We have taken the approach of presenting the material along a "timeline" that extends from when you begin to think about the trip through the various planning stages (Early, Mid-, and Late Pre-Trip) on to the trip itself and beyond.

There is a menu to the left of the pages that shows the page you are looking at with red text, the other pages in that section in dark red text and the other sections' headings with dark blue text. You can navigate using the buttons "Last page" or "Next page" at the bottom of each page or you can use the menu to the left. Links to other web sites or other resources are highlighted like this.

May the Lord bless you as you seek Him and as you serve His kingdom!

To God be the glory,
