Leading a STM Medical Team
Resources & Bibliography

- Devotionals
- Prepare Your Heart (from Short Term Evangelical Missions web site)
- or here, Prepare Your Heart, by Cindy Judge (from MissionsResources.com web site)
- A well written, concise short-term mission journal that has devotions from pre-trip prep through the trip itself. We budget for one to be given to each team member early in the team meeting cycle.
- Books
- When Charity Destroys Dignity, by Glenn Schwartz
- When Helping Hurts, by Brian Fikkert and Steve Corbett
- Must reads - especially When Helping Hurts - for leaders (the whole team, if possible) as these authors present the well-researched case for the possible negative effects of short-term teams. These will give you a framework in which to place your work - the things you should do, and the things you should not do.
- Evangelism
- The EvangeCube
- The E3 organization is devoted to evangelism and church planting. The EvangeCube (and its offspring the Children's EvangeCube, the soccer EvangeBall, and the EvangeCards) is a wonderful evangelism tool that tells the story of salvation in pictorial style with suggested text for each picture. It is engaging, well done artistically, compelling, and easy to use with all ages and all settings.

- Medication orders
- Meds for the team medicine bag
- Medicines we typically bring with us to be used to treat ill team members. This bag is kept separately from the meds for the clinics, and it should always be taken with the team.
- Medicines ordered/used on a recent trip
- A report produced by our pharmacist after a medical clinic trip to Peru. It shows the meds we brought, how many were used, and how many were used per 100 patients seen. This could be helpful in generating a formulary for future trips.
